Toronto Raptors shooting guard Danny Green says star small forward Kawhi Leonard didn't quit on the San Antonio Spurs last season. Leonard played in just nine games last year due to a quadriceps injury. The two-time All-Star was reportedly cleared by team doctors to play late in the season, but never received clearance from his own doctors.

Spurs fans, who booed Leonard last Thursday in his return to San Antonio, strongly believe their former franchise player quit on the organization. Green, who played in San Antonio with Leonard, strongly denies that, saying Leonard had a legit injury and wasn't able to play.

“He was injured,” Green told Chris Mannix of The Crossover. “Being injured has nothing to do with quitting. Quitting is if you are healthy and you sit out. He was hurt, and everyone in the San Antonio organization knew that.”

Leonard reportedly didn't like the way the Spurs and the medical staff in San Antonio handled his injury. As a result, the two-time Defensive Player of the Year requested a trade in the offseason, sending shock waves throughout the NBA.

The Spurs traded Leonard and Green to the Raptors in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl and a 2019 first-round pick. So far, the trade has worked out well for both teams. Leonard and Green are part of a Raptors squad which has the best record in the NBA, while the Spurs are in sixth place in the rugged Western Conference.
