Through the first eight years of his career, All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan has established himself as one of the top scorers in the league.

This has seen him almost entirely become a sole contributor in the scoring column on the court. However, DeRozan recently made it clear that he wants to become a bigger factor as a distributor, according to Eric Koreen of The Athletic in Toronto.

The 28-year-old holds a career average of 2.8 assists per game and has averaged no greater than 4.0 assists in any season in the league. He has seen an uptick in that aspect of his game since the arrival of All-Star guard Kyle Lowry, but he has played a secondary role in that regard over that span.

Lowry has taken on the full responsibility of being the team's top passer, which he is coming off his most productive season where he averaged a career-high 7.0 assists per game. The fact that DeRozan is eyeing taking over the reigns as the team's top distributor could add another element to the Raptors if he's able to prove that he can be an effective passer.

This would also allow for other players on the team to take on greater offensive responsibilities while creating a better sense of offensive balance. Ultimately, the ball is in DeRozan's court to back up his strong stance.
