After playing just over 12 minutes in the Toronto Raptors' Sunday matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, Fred VanVleet would exit the game in the second quarter after suffering an apparent knee injury.

In his 12 minutes, the Raptors combo guard scored two points, dished out two assists and grabbed one rebound.

According to the team, the 6-foot-1 point guard suffered a right knee contusion and would not return to the game.

VanVleet was in the midst of a breakout season for the Raptors before the injury. After scoring 11 points per game for the team last year, the former Wichita State star is now putting up 18.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.3 assists in only his fourth year.

Despite going undrafted in 2016, VanVleet has quickly become an important piece for the Raptors and has started all 21 games for Toronto this season.

This 2019-20 season is the final year of his two-year $18 million contract, so VanVleet is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. With his strong play this year, however, he could make as much as $25-30 million a year in his next contract.

Despite losing superstar Kawhi Leonard in the offseason, the Raptors remain one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. Sitting at third place in the conference, the team has been held afloat by VanVleet as well as emerging star Pascal Siakam.
