It is no secret that the Toronto Raptors could potentially make some substantial changes to their roster. As a result, center Jonas Valanciunas has arrived at the forefront of trade rumors given new head coach Nick Nurse's affinity for running small-ball.

However, that does not seem to be the case. According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, Valanciunas could be sticking around thanks to his rapport with Nurse:

But sources with knowledge of the situation say that’s not likely, that Valanciunas and Nurse will go nicely together. Valanciunas and Nurse had a good working relationship, and there is a sense that Valanciunas will only be encouraged to develop more confidence in his perimeter game, in an effort to space the floor and create passing and driving lanes for guards Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan.

Valancuinas did whatever he could to stay away from the 3-point line early in his career. However, that changed prior to the 2017-18 NBA season when the Raptors were forced to adjust to the NBA's new up-tempo style of play.

Fortunately, Valanciunas was able to add some serious range to his shot with the help of Nurse. Despite going 1-of-4 in his career from deep prior to this season, he finished by going 30-of-74 in the regular season which is good for 40 percent. That said, it is encouraging to see that the big man is capable of expanding his game.

However, it is still hard to believe that any player on Toronto's roster is still untouchable after this last playoff run. Regardless, it still might serve Valancuinas well to continue working on his 3-point shot moving forward.
