Lamar Jackson may have had a rough game in the Baltimore Ravens' loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs on Sunday afternoon, but Ravens safety Eric Weddle thinks the team is in good hands long term with Jackson under center:

“He’s the future,” said Weddle after the game, according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. “As you can tell, he’s devastated. But that’s going to drive him next year. He’s going to be a great one.”

Jackson ended up completing 14 of his 29 passes for 194 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, registering a passer rating of 78.8, but those numbers don't tell the story of just how poorly he played on Sunday.

Both of Jackson's touchdown passes came in garbage time with game essentially already decided, and prior to that, there was a stretch where he went nearly three hours of real time without completing a pass. He was also sacked seven times, but a lot of that was simply due to poor protection from his offensive line.

The rookie made seven starts this season, throwing for 1,201 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 58.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 84.5.

Of course, where Jackson is most lethal is on the run, as he rushed for 695 yards and five scores this year, averaging 4.7 yards per carry.

Jackson, who turned 22 years old on Monday, played his collegiate football at the University of Louisville and was selected by Baltimore in the first round (32nd pick overall) of the NFL Draft back in the spring.
