The Baltimore Ravens — after waiting patiently — have their first-round pick on the field playing 11-on-11 football. Wide receiver Marquise Brown, following Lisfranc surgery, has been upgraded from playing 7-on-7 ball to practicing against the Philadelphia Eagles in joint training camp.

After his first practice against a different NFL defense, head coach John Harbaugh said, via Penn Live's Aaron Kasinitz:

“I saw I guy that was practicing for the first time. We’ll see it on tape. He just needs to get accustomed to the… speed of it, the thinking, the lining up.”

Judging by Harbaugh's statement, Brown is still getting used to the speed of NFL football. He faces a steeper learning curve than other rookies because he was out for a portion of training camp and all of the spring practices.

The Ravens are slowly adding more to Brown's plate as the training camp progresses and regular-season football nears.

“We’re giving him more every day and I think the plan was the right plan,” Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman said via the Ravens official website. “I think this past week we really saw a different gear from him. That’s exciting.”

[Brown’s] style is a little different. He can kick that gear in, so you better put some mustard on that ball,” Roman added.

As the Ravens and John Harbaugh prepare for the regular season, quarterback Lamar Jackson and Brown will have some catching up to do in terms of chemistry. But, Jackson should immediately be able to take advantage of Brown's game-changing speed.
