Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson admits that he hasn’t had the best preseason. Through four games, Jackson has looked exactly what he is — a rookie who still needs to develop his passing skills.

Jackson completed well under 50 percent of his pass attempts in his first three contests. Although, he came up with by far his most impressive outing yet as he went 7-of-10 for 98 yards and a touchdown against the Miami Dolphins. After the game, he sent out a subtle message to his critics and doubters.

“I hope people know I can throw now, even though I had a low percentage,” Jackson told WBAL-TV while walking off the field (per Jamison Hensley of ESPN). “But it's all good. We had fun and came out with a win.”

Despite being a top talent physically, Jackson still fell to the end of the first round because of concerns about his ability to develop into a capable passer in the NFL. His preseason performances have helped justify some teams’ worries about his ability to translate his talents to the next level.

But the Dolphins game provided a glimpse of what Jackson can become if he fully realizes his potential. That’s why the Ravens took a chance on him in the first place. They know that Jackson’s upside is very high if he ever shores up his passing game.

There’s obviously still a long way to go for Jackson before he can truly prove his bona fides to his doubters. But for now, he can at least silence them with his impressive breakout performance.
