The Baltimore Ravens announced on Thursday that they are letting Rob Ryan, their inside linebackers coach, go this offseason. Previously, Ravens head coach had stated that he did not expect there to be very much turnover with coaches and assistants this offseason.

Last week, the Ravens brought Mike Macdonald on board as their new defensive coordinator. Apparently, he has different plans in mind.

Macdonald replaced Don “Wink” Martinsdale who was the head man on defense the last four seasons.

Ryan only spent one year with the Ravens. Ironically, Ryan was the one who had replaced Macdonald in 2021. Macdonald was the team's linebackers coach from 2018-2020 but left prior to last season to be Jim Harbaugh's defensive coordinator at Michigan.

Ryan has had a wild and busy career in the NFL. He initially started out as the defensive backs coach in the mid 1990's for the Arizona Cardinals. After a couple of stints in college, he spent time coaching with the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Buffalo Bills and Washington Commanders. Much of that time was spent as a defensive coordinator.

But after he led a horrendous defense in New Orleans, he was fired and has yet to attain that same title.

The Ravens appear to be shaking up much of the coaching staff, despite another strong season defensively in 2021. Former LSU stud linebacker Patrick Queen will not be on his third position coach in his third year in the NFL.

The Ravens also let go of their tight ends coach Bobby Engram from the 2021 staff.
