Robert Griffin III spent the 2018 campaign as the Baltimore Ravens' third-string quarterback behind Lamar Jackson and Joe Flacco.
Now, with Flacco out of the picture, Griffin is heading into next season as the Ravens' primary backup, but he is not content with merely playing second fiddle to Jackson.
“By no means am I content with where I'm at,” Griffin told TMZ Sports. “Anybody that signs in the league is never content being a backup, so this is just part of the rebuilding process for me.”
But could Griffin really supplant Jackson as the starter?
It doesn't seem all that likely, as Baltimore looks very committed to Jackson going into 2019, but Griffin is holding out hope that he can continue moving up the depth chart:
“It started last year, I moved from QB3 to QB2 … but by no means am I content with where I'm at. I still want to keep going.”
Maybe if Jackson gets hurt or if he struggles mightily in the first half of next season, Griffin will get a shot to start, but barring one of those things occurring, Griffin doesn't appear to have any chance of winning the Ravens' quarterback job.
There was a time when the 29-year-old was one of the brightest young stars in the league, as he took the NFL by storm as a rookie with the Washington Redskins in 2012, but Griffin has fallen hard since then due to injuries and inconsistency across the board.
Griffin also played for the Cleveland Browns in between his time with the Redskins and Ravens.
