The Tampa Bay Rays are currently at 34-23 on the year, but they've dealt with a flurry of injuries, especially to their bullpen. On Friday, the Rays were handed yet another setback and this time, it was to one of their most important relievers.

Per Marc Topkin, All-Star Andrew Kittredge is set to undergo Tommy John surgery and won't be back until the second half of 2023.

Kittredge wasn't putting up the same impressive numbers as a year ago, but he still proved to be effective with a 3-1 record and 3.15 ERA in 17 appearances. He also leads the Rays with five saves, although Kittredge also blew three of them.

Nevertheless, it's an unfortunate blow for a Tampa Bay team that has already got their work cut out for them in the AL East. J.P. Feyereisen, JT Chargois, and Luis Patino are all on the IL as well, while Tyler Glasnow is still recovering from Tommy John.

Despite the setbacks to countless arms though, the Rays are fourth in the MLB with a solid 3.20 ERA while also holding opponents to a .223 average. Tampa's pitching staff has essentially carried them so far, with the offense struggling to produce on a consistent basis.

The Rays begin a three-game set with the Minnesota Twins on Friday night.
