Chicago White Sox pitcher Lance Lynn has been nominated as one of the three finalists for the MLB Cy Young Award. He's going up against New York Yankees Gerrit Cole, and Toronto Blue Jay Robbie Ray.

Lynn and the White Sox had an incredible season but ended up falling short of their Championship aspirations. The White Sox finished with an impressive 93-69 overall record on the season. They won the American League Central by 13 games. Lance Lynn was a big reason why they had so much success. Lynn on the season had an 11-6 record including a 2.69 ERA and 176 strikeouts.

Around the fan base of Major League Baseball, many believe that either Robbie Ray or Gerrit Cole is coming away with this award. Lance Lynn had some incredible moments this season so let's take a look at some reasons why he's going to come away with this award.

Reasons why Lance Lynn will win the Cy Young

2. His team was the best out of the other two finalist

There has to be some case for this when looking at postseason Awards. For most of the season, Ray and Cole did have better seasons did Lance Lynn did. In Lance Lynn's defense, he was the only one who was able to make it to a division series. He was also the only one out of the three who was able to secure his team's division. Unfortunately for Lynn, this isn't like the MVP conversation. Many believe that the MVP should always come from a team that made the playoffs but the Cy Young Award is not based on that.

1. Cole and Ray meltdowns

Luckily for Lynn, both Robbie Ray and Gerrit Cole both had some struggles towards the end of the season. This might make some voters vote for Lynn because he didn't have that crash towards the end of the season that both of the others had. This would be the best possible scenario for Lynn to win this award as the other pitchers do lead him in almost every major pitching stat. A voter might look at what Lynn did compared to the other two while teams were making a playoff push. If Lynn wants to win this award he's going to have to hope that voters really value what he did towards the end of the season compared to these other two.

There's no denying that Lynn had an incredible season. He was a major part of the reason why the White Sox had so much success throughout the year. He finished in the top 25 in most major pitching categories. He also was consistently good all year. There wasn't a stretch where he was really bad like the other two were. It's going to be tough for Lynn to win this award because the other guy's stats are just that good. If Lynn can continue to pitch like this for the rest of his career, he's going to continue getting CY Young votes, but this might not be the year for him to win it.
