Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson is back for the start of training camp but expect him to take it pretty slow to start. Thompson was breaking onto the scene last year before suffering a broken tibia in Week 11. He appeared on Sirius XM radio and confirmed that he would be practicing but preached patience with his progress.

“I'm feeling pretty good right now, I will start practicing with the guys from day one but just taking it slowly,” said Thompson. “The focus is to really be ready by that first regular season game”

Thompson has been injury prone his entire career so expect the Redskins to take a really slow approach in getting him back to 100 percent. He won't be put on the PUP to start camp but he also probably won't be doing a ton of 11 on 11. How much Thompson participates in the preseason games could also be limited depending on how his body is reacting to the practices.

Thompson is a decent rusher while the true strength is catching the ball out of the backfield. He is a great change of pace back who is a threat to break off a long run anytime he gets his hands on the ball.

The Redskins added Derrius Guice from the LSU Tigers this offseason through the draft. He should be an early-down back that is a game changer. Putting Thompson as a third down and change of pace back could be just the piece this team needs to have a real one-two punch out of the backfield.
