The Washington Redskins kickstarted the offseason by trading for former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. It appears he has already started to have a positive impact on this year's incoming rookies.
Running back Derrius Guice is among the new additions to the team going into the 2018 NFL season. According to Benjamin Standig of the Associated Press, one thing that has stood out to him about Smith is his intelligence:
Needless to say, there is plenty of truth to Guice's comments. Although Smith may lack the raw athleticism or cannon arm, he has proven to be one of the most competent quarterbacks in the league.
The three-time Pro Bowler is also off the best year of his 14-year career after throwing for 4,042 yards, 26 touchdowns, and just five interceptions. More importantly, he has already started to have a positive impact on some of the rookies as they make their transition to the NFL.
Despite being touted as one of the most talented running backs in this years draft, concerns about his maturity hurt his stock. As a result, Washington was able to get him late in the second round. Fortunately, he will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact in the backfield alongside Smith on a team that is starving for more playmakers on offense.
