It was a rollercoaster rookie season for Dwayne Haskins in 2019 with the Washington Redskins and the quarterback is focused on improving in 2020. Following another dismal year for the Redskins in 2019, Haskins has a new “sense of urgency” ahead of his second NFL season.

“A lot of times last year, I thought we were dragging,” Haskins wrote on the team's official website. “This year, I feel a new sense of urgency. That’s what is fun about football. It’s the “want to,” to play your best in every situation.”

Unlike some rookie quarterbacks, Haskins didn't get a chance to start in Week 1 of the 2019 season. Instead, the Redskins chose to start veteran Case Keenum, causing Haskins to patiently wait for his opportunity.

That opportunity came in Week 9 versus the Buffalo Bills, giving the No. 15 pick a chance to make his first career start in the NFL. After a shaky start to his career, Haskins finished the 2019 campaign strong. Over the course of the final three games of the season, Haskins contributed 564 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.

While Haskins was the starter, similar to most rookies, there were positives and negatives in his performances. Even though some blame him for his struggles, it's important to note the turmoil that was taking place in Washington last season.

Earlier this offseason, with Ron Rivera becoming Washington's next head coach, there was uncertainty surrounding Haskins' status with the franchise. As Haskins prepares for his second season in the NFL, it appears that he's motivated to prove why the Redskins should be confident in him moving forward.
