Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed could be cleared to play next season after missing the entire 2019 season. Reed suffered a concussion in the team's third preseason game and didn't play a single down after that.

Via Ben Standig of The Athletic:

One source close to Reed told The Athletic during the final week of the season that he wouldn’t rule out the seven-year veteran attempting a return despite the high number of concussions.

Reed was anticipating a big year last season, however, the concussion ultimately ended his season. The 29-year-old was seeking to clear the concussion protocol, but the Redskins decided to place him on the injured reserved list making him ineligible for the rest of the season.

Reed was selected in the third round by the Redskins in 2013. He had a breakout year in 2015, catching 87 passes for 952 yards and 11 touchdowns. He played a vital role in the Redskins' offense that year, helping them win the NFC East. His tremendous year in 2015 earned him a five-year, $46 million contract extension with the Redskins.

Unfortunately, Reed has struggled to stay healthy as he has had numerous injuries in recent years. Reed has suffered from seven documented concussions in his career. Nonetheless, Reed last played in 2018 where he caught 54 passes for 554 yards and two touchdowns. In his career, Reed has caught 329 passes with 24 touchdowns.

Reed arguably has one of the worst contracts in the NFL. He has received $22 million in injury guarantees and is expected to make $10 million in 2020. It's uncertain if the Redskins will release Reed this upcoming offseason.
