It has been a rough second season for Washington Redskins running back Rob Kelley that has been marred by injuries.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Redskins have placed the 25-year-old on season-ending IR due to a high-ankle sprain and a sprained MCL in his left knee, signing Byron Marshall to take his spot on the roster.

It effectively ends what has been a disappointing season for Kelley, as he compiled just 194 yards on 62 carries with three touchdowns and four catches for 18 receiving yards in seven games. This includes failing to gain more than 30 rushing yards in all but one outing.

He was forced to miss two games with rib and ankle injuries earlier this year, which also affected his performance in the other contests that he did play.

This will shift the primary duties in the running game over to a shared Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine; meanwhile, Byron Marshall will provide depth at the position if needed. Thompson has proven to be a valuable threat in the passing game ,racking up 494 receiving yards on 38 receptions and three touchdowns. He has also recorded over 100 receiving yards and a touchdown twice this season.

Perine has recorded 210 rushing yards on 66 carries along with six catches for 55 yards and a touchdown in nine games played.
