The Washington Redskins have decided to rescind their latest contract offer to veteran pass rusher Junior Galette, NBC Sports Washington’s Chick Hernandez reports.

Hernandez also notes that several teams are in play for the free-agent edge rusher, including the Cleveland Browns and the Los Angeles Rams.

Galette, 29, signed for the Redskins back in 2015. However, he only appeared for the team for the first time last season due to back-to-back Achilles tears which cost him the last two seasons. Galette played all 16 games for the Redskins, recording 3.0 sacks and 20 tackles as he played behind the likes of Ryan Kerrigan, Preston Smith, and Trent Murphy last season.

Galette was quite a formidable pass rusher prior to his injury woes. He posted back-to-back double-digit sack totals in his two years as a regular starter with the New Orleans Saints. While it’s unlikely he returns to that sort of level again after two Achilles tears, teams around the league likely feel he can still be a capable contributor to their pass rush.

As for the Redskins, they must now find some added depth at edge rusher following their decision to pull their offer for Galette, coupled with the loss of Murphy to the Bills. They’ve already met with veteran Pernell McPhee as a possible addition, although no deal has been announced.

But even without Murphy and Galette, the Redskins still have a formidable duo in Kerrigan and Smith, who combined for 21 sacks last season. Ryan Anderson could also see a much larger role on the team in his second season.
