Leading up to the 2017 NBA Draft, there has been a growing sense that the Los Angeles Lakers possess a strong desire to take UCLA point guard Lonzo Ball with their second overall pick if he is still available at the spot.

However, it appears that there may be a progressive shift in  another direction as Jordan Schultz of the Huffington Post is reporting that the Lakers at this current juncture don't have much interest in selecting Ball with their pick.

The Lakers will have a plethora of options available to them at the No. 2 overall pick after the Boston Celtics or whoever else owns the first overall selection. Ball could likely be one of those scenarios if Washington point guard Markelle Fultz is indeed the first player off the board come later this month.

Although Los Angeles originally did not voice much concern about LaVar Ball, it's clear he may still play a factor in its decision-making process. His numerous antics through the media have in many ways overshadowed his son's ability on the court and could create a potential distraction.

That said, the Lakers' current thinking could drastically change next week after the team brings in the 19-year-old for an individual work on June 7 when he will also meet with the coaching staff and front office personnel.

Ball is one of the more intriguing talents in this year's draft following a strong freshman year at UCLA when he led the nation with 7.6 assists per game while also breaking the school single-season record with 274 assists.

With there still being a few weeks until the draft, much could change within that time frame.
