After a rough period wherein his antics overshadowed his basketball skills, Nick Young finally got his redemption year with the Lakers this season.

Unfortunately, it has to come to a stop, though just a bit prematurely.

As reported by Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News, the team has decided to shut down the flamboyant guard for the rest of the season. Young improved his scoring average by almost six markers (13.2 points per game) this season and he shot the ball really well at a 40 percent clip from long distance.

Los Angeles is no longer in the business of winning games in hopes of salvaging their 2017 lottery pick and focus has also shifted to developing the young core led by D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle.

Young understands that he no longer falls under the ‘youthful’ category, making the Lakers’ decision not that surprising. For the meantime, he will be soon turning his attention to his 2017-2018 player option which amounts to a little over $5 million. What does the market, or the Lakers, hold for Nick Young's future? Let's see what happens.
