Other than Chandler Parsons, a common theme appears to be occurring around the NBA: superstar players are re-signing with their incumbent franchises. Andre Drummond appears to be in that group as well.

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Detroit Pistons and Drummond are closing in on a five-year maximum deal, somewhere in the $130 million range.

The contract was reportedly negotiated into early Friday morning, starting right when free agency officially kicked off at 12:01 a.m. ET.

With the center being a restricted free agent, the Pistons had the ability to retain Drummond as long as they matched any deal that came his way. By signing him to the max, Detroit isn't wasting any time; they know the market would dictate a max offer for Drummond eventually, anyway.

Drummond led the NBA with 14.8 rebounds per game last season while also averaging 16.2 points. The only (very) evident flaw in his game is his free throwing shooting; Andre shot a horrible 35.5 percent from the line in 2015-16. It often forced him out of late-game situations during Detroit's first round series with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Still, his sheer presence and dominance in the paint is something to behold, and the Pistons weren't simply going to let him walk without getting anything in return. Given the upward trend of nearly all of his numbers, head coach Stan Van Gundy and the rest of Detroit's executives expect big things from Drummond as the 22-year old continues his blossoming career in the Motor City.
