The funniest part of the NBA season occurs in the first two weeks. We have a very limited amount of data to work with, but people feel the need to start drawing conclusions from it. This applies to the Houston Rockets; though we'll get there in a minute.

For example about early season overreactions, James Harden had a poor start to the season and everyone went directly to his free throw numbers and concluded he was no longer an awesome basketball player because he “couldn't trick officials anymore.”.In reality, Harden's had slow starts to the season before and he's likely to adjust to the new foul rules and go on a tear to make up for the poor stretch as he's done in the past.

On a micro-level, observers of the Houston Rockets, particularly fans, are already harboring their own overreactions. Let's go through some of the more well known ones.

Rockets Overreactions

1. The Rockets shouldn't have picked Jalen Green

As someone who argued feverishly for USC's Evan Mobley to be the second pick in the 2021 Draft, I think some Rockets fans are reading too much on the early season returns of Jalen Green. While it's true that other rookies, namely Mobley and Scottie Barnes, are off to better starts than Green, it's way too early to relitigate the draft. If Trae Young and Anthony Edwards taught us anything, it's that you should wait until year two or three before you start calling out teams for their choices at the top of the draft.

There's a reason people like me aren't doing victory laps about Mobley right now. It's way too early for that.

2. It's time for Houston to move on from Stephen Silas

Setting the proper expectations before each season and having patience while the games are being played are going to be instrumental for Rockets fans over the next couple years. The amount of people that have called for head coach Stephen Silas to be fired for a decision or two that they didn't like is astounding. While it's understandable that many want Alperen Sengun to start or someone like Josh Christopher to receive more minutes, these coaching staffs are a lot smarter than they're given credit for. Silas could be the wrong coach for this group, but it's really hard to tell with this limited amount of data.

There's also little incentive for the Rockets to move on from Silas right now. There's not really a hard incentive to win games and it's way too early in the rebuild to start finalizing a coach that will take you to the playoffs.

3. Alperen Sengun is the next Nikola Jokic

You're not going to find someone who was higher on Alperen Sengun during the draft process than me. I had him seventh on my board and believed he was one of the handful of players that actually had star potential. However, the Nikola Jokic comparisons are likely a tad much. Yes, Sengun's an incredible passer and has an unconventional, herky-jerky game, but Jokic just won an MVP last season and is probably the greatest passing center of all time.

Perhaps it would be wise to make a more attainable comparison. Like when fans compared Kevin Porter Jr. to James Harden last season, you're probably going to be disappointed when you compare a young player to a hall of famer right off the bat.
