Sage Steele continues to air the dirty laundry from the messy breakup she had with her ex… her ex-network that is, ESPN. After visiting the Alabama football program, it was time for the next stop on Steele's right wing tour by going on Fox News to be interviewed by Jesse Watters. Here she dropped some, let's say, truthiness bombs about her time at the network.

Steele told Watters that she felt “silenced” from pushing her right-wing opinions on the network, apparently forgetting that the most basic tenet of journalistic integrity is to not push opinions of any kind but rather to aim for objectivity in reporting.

“I wasn't the only one who felt silenced, who felt scared,” said Steele. “I mean, some of us would literally whisper in the corner or even in the bathroom and talk about, hey, we can't say this too loud.”

Steele's claims stemmed from her controversial 2021 interview on Jay Cutler's unnecessary podcast Uncut with Jay Cutler, in which she made derogatory comments about former President Obama and also complained that ESPN forced her to receive the COVID vaccine.

How dare ESPN not let her spread Covid during the height of its super-spreading around a huge corporate office! (Although that would have made a priceless “This Is Sportscenter” commercial — an unvaccinated, maskless Steele trying to talk to other anchors around the office, who use Chris Paul as a measuring stick to remind her to keep six feet away. It practically writes itself!)

Steele also touched on the lawsuit she filed against ESPN for what she viewed as these infringements on her first amendment rights.

“Not just in the studio or in the green room or the makeup room, but on social media, on ESPN platforms,” Steele said. “And I think that's all I ever wanted. And that's kind of what the suit was about, was consistency. What are the rules? Let's make them clear and make sure everybody follows them, not just the people that fit a certain narrative.”

For a journalist, Steele sure didn't do much research to get her facts straight on this one. It's common knowledge that ESPN also suspended sports journalist Jemele Hill for her outspoken left-leaning political opinions. But if you're going to promote false information in an interview, Fox News is certainly the place to do it!

Steele said that eventually she just decided she “had enough,” the timing of which happened to coincide with a major on-air personality layoff at ESPN, but no need to quibble over who dumped who.

Steele did say there was a silver lining to the whole experience. “The biggest blessing for me is that I've finally learned to be okay not being liked, even if they're for reasons that I think are stupid. People who won't even have a conversation or who have never even met me. That happens quite a lot. And I'm sure you're familiar with it too.”

Jesse Watters not being liked?! Robert Parish the thought! That's as sacrilege as saying people don't like Jay Cutler! Come to think of it… maybe Steele should choose her interview destinations a bit more selectively.

Regardless, Steele still had a few more shots to take at her former employer. “It's insane and it's the opposite of what people preach with … equity and tolerance and inclusion and acceptance and all those words that everybody throws around, especially in corporate America, but when it's actually time to live it? That was my issue.”

Riiight? Sage practiced some next-level equity by refusing to get a vaccine to help protect the general public and her colleagues, some prime-time acceptance by suing her employer over it and some stellar inclusion by questioning President Obama for choosing to identify as Black.

Sage's rationale for her actions were that, as a mother of three, she had to live by the advice she tells her children.

“I have preached to them about standing up tall and strong and being okay with being you no matter what. And so then what was their mom going to do? Just hide under the table again, because I was afraid? I've done that for years. So I just hope, yes, in corporate America, these bosses pay attention and are consistent now. But those of us who have a voice, and even if you don't have a big platform, we're hypocrites if we don't begin to call this out and try to change it.”

It wouldn't be surprising if Fox News looks at Sage Steele‘s interview as an audition and offers her a job on the network soon. I'm pretty sure they won't have a problem with Steele tweeting Covid misinformation and right-wing propaganda.
