Despite the off-field brouhaha involving star Alvin Kamara, the New Orleans Saints continue to make moves. The team on Tuesday promoted defensive coordinator Dennis Allen as top tactician to replace long-time coach Sean Payton.

Allen will have another crack as the main shot-caller after his dismal stint with the Oakland Raiders in 2012-2014, tallying an 8-28 win-loss record.

While they're not division rivals, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick said he has observed Allen's work with the Saints, and the usually cantankerous coach only had good things to say (via Saints reporter Nick Underhill).

“Dennis does a good job. I have learned a lot from watching his teams play. I am sure he will do a great job.”

The 49-year-old Allen will have big shoes to fill in Payton's surprising exit. But he has been under Payton's wings for years now, so he's not expected to have a difficult transition, especially since the Saints have been posting winning records in the last five years.

Allen has helped transform the Saints' defense into one of the NFL's best, ranking fourth in yards allowed and points allowed over the past three seasons, according to ESPN.

Belichick can surely spot talent when he sees one, and getting compliments from the multi-titled mentor will only hike up Allen's confidence as he starts another chapter in his career.
