Current New Orleans Saints' defensive coordinator Dennis Allen is reportedly up for the as-yet-unfilled DC job for the Bengals.

Prior to this, Allen interviewed for the Miami Dolphins' head coaching position that, ultimately, went to Brian Flores.

And while the move to Ohio would be a lateral move, the Saints can't do anything to block him from trying out for the position, since his contract with the team expired in 2018.

The question of what Dennis Allen decides to do relies on one question: does he want to try to bring the Saints to the Super Bowl again next season, or does he want to try his hand with defensive coordination of the Bengals under first-year head coach Zac Taylor.

There are quite a few commentators — namely, Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network — who believe that Allen just may jump ship to Cincinnati since reports have come out that the Saints plan to hire Dolphins special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi for the same position.

Rizzi's hire is the first of many overhauls that the Bengals made to their special teams lineup.

Prior to working as the defensive coordinator for the Saints (where he was promoted from defensive assistant), Dennis Allen was the head coach for the Oakland Raiders. Allen also previously coached for the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, University of Tulsa and his alma mater, Texas A&M University.

Allen made headlines back in 2014 when he was fired as the head coach of the Raiders right at the start of the season, after a dismal 0-4 start.
