Alvin Kamara emerged as one of the most dynamic rookies in recent NFL history in 2017, and his role will likely expand in year 2 with the New Orleans Saints, especially in Mark Ingram's absence.

Pending an appeal, Ingram will miss the first four games of the 2018 season after receiving a suspension for violating the league's performance-enchancing drugs policy. While he's gone, the former Heisman Trophy winner shared some advice with the budding star in New Orleans.

From Kamara's NFL Network appearance, transcribed by 247 Sports' James Parks:

“Me and Mark talked about it, and he just told me to hold it down until he gets back,” Kamara told NFL Network. “I trust the coaches, trust my teammates, guys are going to step up and make plays, our coaches will do their best to make sure I’m not overworked, injured, hurt, or anything. We’ll be all right. We got work to do, everybody’s gotta step up. It’s next [man] up.”

After years of relying on perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Drew Brees to lead the offense with his arm, the Saints' rushing attack emerged as one of the most prolific in the NFL last season. Ingram and Kamara combined for 1,852 rushing yards while scoring 20 touchdowns on the ground. Kamara also excelled in the passing game, making 81 receptions for 826 yards and five touchdowns.

While Ingram's out, head coach Sean Payton made it clear the franchise just won't give all of his carries to Kamara so as to avoid injury or burning him out early in the season. After a heartbreaking playoff exit at the hands of the Minnesota Vikings in January, New Orleans anticipates making a longer postseason run in 2018.
