The New Orleans Saints may have lost to the Carolina Panthers in their meaningless regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon, but wide receiver Michael Thomas set a franchise record for the most receiving yards in a single season during the defeat.

Thomas ended with 1,405 yards on the year after recording five catches for 29 yards in the loss.

In addition to his yardage total, Thomas racked up a league-leading 125 receptions and also scored nine touchdowns on the year en route to his second straight Pro Bowl appearance.

Thomas, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State University, was originally selected by the Saints in the second round (47th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He had a terrific rookie campaign, hauling in 92 receptions for 1,137 yards and nine scores.

The following year, the 25-year-old was even better, snaring 104 balls for 1,245 yards while reaching the end zone five times and was elected to his first Pro Bowl as a result.

The Saints ended the year with a record of 13-3, equaling their best mark in franchise history. New Orleans has won 13 games three times since 2009, with the first instance ending in a Super Bowl win during the 2009-10 campaign.

Due to the fact that the Saints already had the No. 1 seed in the NFC locked up going into Sunday's action, New Orleans rested quarterback Drew Brees.

This also marks the first time the Saints have made the playoffs in back-to-back years since 2011, which was also the last time New Orleans put together a 13-win season.

The Saints not only ended the year with the top seed in the NFC, but with the best record in the NFL.
