The New Orleans Saints have already extended defensive lineman Cam Jordan, and now, wide receiver Michael Thomas could be next.

Saints head coach Sean Payton has already said that he thinks Thomas is next in line to land a new deal, and general manager Mickey Loomis confirmed that New Orleans and Thomas have held extension discussions.

“Yeah, listen, we’ve had some conversations, and I like keeping that close to the vest until there’s something to report,” Loomis said on Mad Dog Sports Radio. “Look, we love what Mike’s done for us. He’s a fantastic player, one of the best at his position in the league, and hopefully we can keep him as a Saint for a longtime as well.”

Thomas is entering the final year of his deal and is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he hauled in 125 receptions for 1,405 yards and nine touchdowns en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by the Saints in the second round (47th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.

He burst on to the scene during his rookie season, catching 92 passes for 1,137 yards and nine scores. Then, the following year, Thomas was even better, snaring 104 balls for 1,245 yards while reaching the end zone five times.

The Saints won a league-best 13 games and captured the NFC South division title this past season. They then went on to suffer a devastating loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
