Here is something really cool: New Orleans Saints defensive end Alex Okafor needed to tally five sacks on the season in order to earn a $400,000 bonus in his contract.

Okafor ended up with four sacks, but the Saints proceeded to give him the bonus anyway, according to Luke Johnson of The New Orleans Times-Picayune.

“The Saints have given me opportunities since I got here, and I’m just blessed and grateful that they still believe in me and are taking care of me the way they are,” Okafor said.

New Orleans has taken care of Okafor on more than one occasion.

Last season, Okafor tore his Achilles and missed the final six games of the 2017 campaign as a result. However, after Saints team doctors told Okafor he would be able to return for the start of training camp, the team proceeded to sign him to a two-year contract.

“After you tear an Achilles, I’ve seen so many instances where guys hit the free agent market and nobody is willing to give them a chance because they just don’t know what they’ll be the next year or when they’ll get them back throughout the season,” Okafor said. “… (New Orleans) believed in me, and we saw that in the contract this offseason.”

Okafor originally signed with New Orleans in March 2017.

In 10 games last season, he registered 43 tackles, 4.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. Then, this season, he posted 35 tackles and a fumble recovery in addition to his sack total.

The Saints finished with an NFL-best 13 wins this year and earned a first-round bye.
