The New Orleans Saints added veteran tight end, Jared Cook, this offseason while head coach Sean Payton already seems quite pleased with the team's new acquisition.

Cook, who has spent time with a variety of different teams throughout his NFL career, is definitely an established piece at the tight end position that can immediately aid veteran quarterback Drew Brees — which is why it doesn't come as a huge surprise that Payton already likes what he sees at training camp.

“I think one thing you see with Cook is his stature,” Payton recently told reporters, via NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. “A lot of times you’ll talk about a big target and there is a confidence level when you throw it to someone who’s that tall and who’s got really good hands, so they’ve been able to make some good plays. He is smart and he picked things up to his credit in the spring and now you’re starting to see some of the plays that take place. That’s encouraging.”

Unfortunately for Payton and company, the Saints came up just shy of reaching the Super Bowl a season ago. Of course, the Saints were narrowing defeated by the eventual NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams, who managed to steal a victory thanks to a blown pass interference call by the officials.

However, there is no reason why the Saints won't return to the postseason come 2019 while New Orleans may very well enter the regular season as the top team in the NFC.
