The New Orleans Saints were officially dealt their first obstacle of the 2018 NFL season with the four-game suspension of running back Mark Ingram. Now there is the question as to how the Saints will go about alleviating his absence.

There are a number of running backs still left on the market from free agency. Among them is former Tennessee Titans running back De'Marco Murray.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, New Orleans could be considering Murray to help fill the void to start the season:

If they do want to make a veteran addition, they could consider DeMarco Murray. Murray’s production dipped in 2017 before he was released by the Titans, but he’s shown ability as both a runner and receiver that could fit as a change of pace from Kamara.

It is no secret that Murray is coming off the worst year of his career. He registered just 659 yards and six touchdowns and the ground while hauling in 39 catches for 266 yards and a touchdown through the air. However, there still may be plenty left in the tank for the three-time Pro Bowler moving forward.

Murray would certainly make for a viable replacement considering his history in Tennessee. Prior to becoming a free agent, he helped form one of the best 1-2 punches in the league alongside running back Derrick Henry. However, the Titans made it clear that they were ready to hand the reins to Henry next season.

That said, the Saints could still use another running back to compliment Alvin Kamara. Murray's versatile skill set will give New Orleans some flexibility when it comes to their backfield to start the year.
