Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has confirmed that wide receiver Doug Baldwin suffered a sprained MCL in their Week 1 loss to the Denver Broncos.

It’s another tough blow for Baldwin, who was held out for most of the preseason with another knee injury to his opposite knee. Baldwin previously admitted that that knee “won’t be 100 percent” healthy in 2018. And this latest injury to his other knee certainly won’t help his effectiveness.

It remains to be seen just how long Baldwin will be out of the Seahawks’ lineup, but given how banged up his knees are, the team may opt to keep him sidelined for the foreseeable future.

Baldwin, who finished with zero receptions on one target against the Broncos, is clearly the Seahawks’ most reliable receiver. He’s led the team by a wide margin in terms of receptions and receiving yards in each of the past four seasons. He once again led the team with 75 catches for 991 receiving yards last season, and was second to Jimmy Graham with eight touchdowns.

The Seahawks’ receiving corps figures to get significantly weaker with Baldwin out of the lineup. With Baldwin absent against the Broncos, Russell Wilson had to turn to Tyler Lockett, Brandon Marshall, and rookie tight end Will Dissly, who erupted for 105 yards and a touchdown on three catches.

Lockett and Marshall will both have to continue carrying the load offensively if Baldwin does miss significant time.

The Seahawks will next be in action against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
