Five-year veteran defensive tackle Jarran Reed is running it back with the Seattle Seahawks in the upcoming season. He recently signed a two-year, $23 million deal to remain in Seattle prior to free agency. The decision to agree to an extension was a no-brainer for Reed as he wanted to contribute more for the team in the future.

“I didn’t want to leave Seattle,” he said. “I felt I had unfinished business just compared to the year I had last year. … The team had faith in me and gave me an opportunity to have another chance by re-signing me. It was pretty easy. I wanted to stay here. I love it here in Seattle.”

The former Alabama Crimson Tide had a breakout season in 2018 when he tallied a total of 10.5 sacks. He joined an elite list consisting of Cortez Kennedy and John Randle as the only interior defensive linemen to post double-digit sack seasons for the Seahawks.

However, things took a turn when Reed was suspended for the first six games of the 2019 season for a violation of the personal conduct policy stemming from a 2017 incident. He was soon reinstated from suspension on October 14, 2019, and was activated prior to Week 7.

Coming off the hiatus, Reed had a dismal performance as he only accounted for two sacks through 10 games played. A fresh contract and a better mindset should make all the difference for Reed to further improve his level of play for the Seahawks.

The veteran ultimately hopes to make up for lost time and contribute to the Super Bowl aspirations of his team in the upcoming season.
