After the Seattle Seahawks signaled a rebuild by trading star quarterback Russell Wilson, one of the biggest questions asked about the team is the future of wide receiver DK Metcalf. With the team clearly not planning to compete any time soon, concerns about the wideout potentially leaving surfaced.

However, head coach Pete Carroll remains committed to the team and Metcalf. He wants to keep the 24-year-old in Seattle for a long time, and so the veteran tactician vows to do everything he can to keep Metcalf in Seahawks jersey.

“It's really important to us. We love him. He maybe will go down as one of the great draft picks we've ever had here,” Carroll said when asked about working on a contract extension with Metcalf, per Greg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune.

“We are going to do everything we can to get it done.”

DK Metcalf, indeed, has been sensational for the Seahawks ever since his arrival in 2019 as a second round pick out of Ole Miss. He has never gone below 900 receiving yards throughout his three seasons so far, even making the Pro Bowl in 2020 after accumulating 1303 receiving yards.

The youngster is expected to be one of the top weapons of Drew Lock, who is poised to be the Seahawks' starting QB after acquiring him in the Russell Wilson trade.

However, the season beyond 2022 remains a doubt for Metcalf since he'll be an unrestricted free agent by then. As Pete Carroll said it, they need to re-sign Metcalf as soon as possible to prevent the risk of losing him. However, that is still up to the star wideout and what he feels since the next season or beyond could be a difficult time for Seattle.
