The Seattle Seahawks were trying to mount a late comeback against the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday night, but they were stifled on a fourth-down play with about three and a half minutes remaining. Under pressure, Russell Wilson lofted up a pass for DeeJay Dallas, only for it to fall incomplete.

However, Rams linebacker Ernest Jones clearly made early contact as Dallas tried to make the catch. There was no flag thrown, however, leaving Dallas furious. The Seahawks running back was so mad he kicked the ball, drawing a flag on himself.

This was an egregious no-call that had a major impact on the outcome of this game. Afterward, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll tried to downplay the no-call and the role it played in Seattle's loss.

Via PFT's Curtis Crabtree:

“With the knucklehead penalty that DeeJay gets for kicking the ball… DeeJay is one of the great players on our team. Team guy, smart, in it. Great juice, great energy and he lost his composure for a flash of an instant and he kicks the ball right there. So it kind of distracted the focus from the call that was just made. I don’t know,” Carroll said. “Those guys make these calls when they make them. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. It happened quickly and it didn’t look very good on the little replay that somebody showed me. I’m not belly-aching about that call. We needed to win the game in all the other ways we could win the game.”

While it's true that the Seahawks needed to be better in general in this game, especially on offense, Carroll had every reason to belly-ache about this call. It was a terrible no-call that effectively ended the hopes of a comeback. There has been plenty of controversy surrounding NFL officiating this season, and this was just another example of how poor it has been.

There was also a questionable flag thrown against Seattle earlier in the game that helped lead to a long Rams touchdown drive. Carroll didn't have much to say about that flag, and now his team is 5-9 after a 20-10 loss. The Seahawks aren't yet officially eliminated from playoff contention, but they're close.
