Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner took to Twitter Wednesday to clarify rumors of Wilson recruiting Wagner to join the Broncos while both players were still members of the Seahawks.

In an appearance on the Rich Eisen Show this week, Wagner said Wilson recruited him to join the Broncos a week prior to the quarterback's trade. But the two long-time Seahawk stars took to Twitter on Wednesday to set the record straight. Wagner, responding to a video clip posted by Sports ON TAP Seattle, referred to the conversation as “just two close friends talking.”

Hours later, Wilson responded to Wagner's tweet. The former Seahawks' quarterback ran with Wagner's description of the two as “close.”

“2 close friends & teammates that started together. Balled together. Gave everything we had everyday. We both love Seattle & always dreamed of finishing our careers together. Will forever love Seattle. New Beginnings now but a forever bond.”

Wilson and Wagner begin new journeys in their respective careers this season. Both Seahawks' Pro Bowlers will wear different jerseys for the first time. Wilson will suit up in Broncos' orange and blue, while Wagner will don a Super Bowl champions patch on his new Rams uniform.

It's an end of an era in Seattle, meanwhile. In week one of the 2022 season, the Seahawks will be without both Wagner and Wilson in a game for the first time since 2011, the year before both players were drafted. During their time in Seattle, Wilson and Wagner captained the offense and defense, respectively, to two Super Bowl appearances, including one victory.
