Seattle Seahawks star quarterback Russell Wilson suffered a nasty finger injury in the 26-17 Thursday Night Football loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Wilson got hurt while following through on a throw and getting hit by Rams star Aaron Donald.

Wilson has never missed a start in his NFL career, but that streak is now in jeopardy. In fact, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll acknowledged he was unsure about possible surgery for the sprained finger, and NFL Network's Ian Rapaport said Friday morning surgery has still not been ruled out.

Here's Rapaport on the injury:

Geno Smith replaced Russell Wilson in the game and did his best to bring the Seahawks back, but it was to no avail. Seattle dropped to 2-3 on the season, and as promising as Smith's performance was against the Rams, losing Wilson for an extended period of time would likely be a death knell.

Wilson is a tough guy and will surely do his best to get back on the field as soon as possible. Of course, one has to wonder just how much the finger injury will affect him whenever he does come back. It's also fair to think about the long-term future after the quarterback was involved in a bunch of trade rumors this past offseason.

If this season goes off the rails, those Russell Wilson trade rumors might ramp up again. There should be further updates on Wilson's status after more tests are done on Friday.
