It's officially the end of the Russell Wilson era as the Seattle Seahawks traded the star quarterback on Tuesday to the Denver Broncos in a shocking move. But, it appears the tension between Russ and the organization was brewing for a while.

There were lots of rumors last offseason that Wilson could leave the Seahawks, but he ultimately stayed put in 2021. However, his agent, Mark Rodgers, constantly contacted reporters over the years to complain about how Pete Carroll ran the offense while Wilson himself voiced his displeasure in interviews about his lack of input with the moves Seattle made.

Via The Athletic:

For years, Rodgers reached out privately to reporters covering the team with harsh criticism for Seahawks management, especially coach Pete Carroll. In recent years, Wilson himself made it clear in interviews that he wasn’t happy with his offensive line and his lack of input in roster decisions. He also pressed Carroll to shift toward a more pass-oriented offense.

Sources said the Seahawks had become frustrated with the stream of leaks that consistently popped up hinting at Wilson’s displeasure or questioning his future in Seattle, even as Wilson’s production began to decline.

You can't blame either side here. Wilson had a right to be frustrated, while the Seahawks were also just tired of hearing the rumors of how unhappy he was in Seattle. Although Russ said at the Pro Bowl that he wants to stay with the franchise for a long time, who knows if that was really the truth or not.

Now, the Seahawks will be looking to either draft a QB in a couple of months or head into the future with Drew Lock, whom they acquired from the Broncos. As for Russell Wilson, he gets a fresh start in Denver but he'll have his work seriously cut out for him in the AFC West, which is brimming with top-notch signal-callers.
