The Seattle Seahawks have already made a change with the month of March barely underway. According to multiple reports, the franchise has elected to part ways with former second round NFL Draft pick Malik McDowell, who notably starred as a defensive lineman at Michigan State during his collegiate playing days.

However, waiving McDowell is not the only important move that the franchise made this offseason, as Seattle has officially placed its franchise tag on pass rusher Frank Clark.

“Frankie will be with us, yeah,” Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll recently said, via the team's official website. “A day earlier, Schneider also said that Clark would be a Seahawk in 2019, and while neither explicitly said it, the implication was that, short of reaching a long-term contract extension prior to Tuesday’s deadline, the Seahawks would place the franchise tag on Clark.”

Retaining Clark is certainly a positive for Seattle. Addition by subtraction was likely used in the case of McDowell. Unfortunately for both the team and McDowell, the once prolific defender never even made a NFL appearance as a member of the NFC West franchise.

“The Seahawks selected Malik McDowell 35th overall in the 2017 NFL draft. After an ATV accident shrouded in mystery, he will go down as the Seahawks' highest pick to never play a snap for the team,” reads the Seattle Times' report regarding the matter.

Last season, Seattle finished the year with a respectable 10-6 record en route to a second place finish in the NFC West standings behind only the Super Bowl-bound Los Angeles Rams.
