The Shohei Ohtani mania is simply inescapable, with the Los Angeles Angels do-it-all asset having a season no one has quite seen before — or ever in the history of major league baseball. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t be able to add to the fun by having an all-Japanese duel in the upcoming 2021 MLB All-Star Game because San Diego Padres pitcher Yu Darvish has been declared out for the event due to an upper-body issue, per Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY.

“The hyped Yu Darvish-Shohei Ohtani matchup will have to wait. Darvish, who had back tightness in his” last start, likely won’t pitch in the All-Star Game, #Padres manager Jayce Tingler says.”

Well, at least, Ohtani will be there to crush homers at Coors Field, and that should be enough to satisfy Japanese baseball fans. Not only will he be partaking in the All-Star Game, but Ohtani will also be hitting bombs during the 2021 Home Run Derby contest, which he is the current favorite to win.

As of this writing, Shohei Ohtani leads the majors with 33 home runs, while also posting a triple-slash line of .279/.362/.704. To show his readiness for the event, Ohtani sent one to the moon for his 33rd tater of the season Friday against the Seattle Mariners.

The 2021 All-Star Game is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, July 13th.
