The Philadelphia 76ers suffered their first home defeat of the season on Wednesday, as the Miami Heat escaped with a 108-104 victory in this Eastern Conference marquee matchup.

After the tightly contested game, Sixers head coach Brett Brown was asked by reporters about his team's performance, with the focus being on his team's struggles against Miami's zone defense:

“I think that we ended up overthinking it probably too much,” coach Brown said, via Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I feel like we’ve been really quite good against a zone this year.”

It is without question that the 3-ball is the most effective weapon against the zone, and unfortunately for the Sixers, their attempts from deep just weren't falling against a formidable Miami defense. Philly went 12-of-39 (30.8 percent) from rainbow territory, which allowed the Heat to stick with the zone pretty much all night long.

This isn't usually the case, though, as the Sixers are actually one of the best teams in the league when it comes to attacking the zone defense. Coach Brown is well aware of this, and he knows that it was just an off shooting night for his team on Tuesday.

Sixers superstar big man Joel Embiid gave his own take on the struggles against the zone. In Embiid's mind, one of the reasons his team struggled on the evening was brought about by his own lack of involvement on the offense:

“It was on the scouting report, we weren't aggressive enough,” Embiid said, via Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice. “In the first half, I don't even remember myself being in any action or getting the ball, so they kind of — I mean it was in the scouting report, we knew they were going to do it, we were prepared for it, I guess we didn't act on it or do what we talked about.”

Embiid appeared to have dialed it back mid-sentence, attempting to cover up what he had just said about his lack of touches during the game. Nonetheless, this just sounds like the frustrated competitor in Embiid, and we certainly wouldn't read too much into his statement here.
