Philadelphia 76ers point guard Markelle Fultz is expected to see a shoulder specialist early next week and will miss a period of time with the team until he has been re-evaluated. Exactly how long Fultz will be sidelined is still in question, according to Sixers general manager Elton Brand.

“What do you think happened between two weeks and now?” a reporter asked Brand during Tuesday's media availability.

“I'm not sure,” Brand replied. “You would have to ask him. But whatever it is, we'll support him. We just want the best for him.

“I don't know how long he's going to be out,” Brand said of Fultz. “I know Monday is the consultation. We'll know more after that. I'd like to have him around. You want to be around your teammates, your coaches. You want to see what's going on. You don't want to be alienated or by yourself at any time if you're going through something — injury or not.”

According to several reports, Fultz will not participate in team practices or games until his evaluation is complete. David Aldridge of The Athletic reports that Fultz scheduled the evaluation “at the direction of his attorney, Raymond Brothers.”

Fultz, now 20 years of age, has made 19 appearances with Philadelphia this season (15 starts), racking up averages of 8.2 points on 41.9 percent shooting from the field (28.6 percent from beyond the arc), 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists and just under one steal (0.9) in 22.5 minutes per outing.

The Sixers (12-7 and second in the Atlantic Division) will be back in action on Wednesday night, as they're scheduled to host the New Orleans Pelicans (10-7 and second in the Southwest Division). Tip-off inside the Wells Fargo Center is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
