It was just revealed that Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers suited up for Game 2 against the Toronto Raptors while nursing a stomach flu. However, the big man never doubted his status and was going to play no matter what.

Per Josh Lewenberg, Joel Embiid knew he was going to suit up despite his illness. He had no plans of sitting out Game 2.

“I knew I was playing. There was no way I was missing this game.”

Embiid struggled in Game 2 and scored just 12 points, while collecting six rebounds and dishing out five assists. Most of his points came from the free throw line where he was 8-of-8.

He was just 2-of-7 from the field. His second field goal — which was the most important one — came in the fourth quarter with fewer than 30 seconds left. It put the 76ers up by three, which was enough to secure the win.

For the series, Embiid is averaging 14.0 points per game on 28.2 percent shooting, along with 7.0 rebounds. This is way below his playoff averages of 23 points per game (45.9 percent) and 12.4 boards.

Flu or no flu, it seems that the Raptors are turning out to be a tough assignment for Embiid. They say a win is a win, but Embiid needs to double down on his efforts in the next games. The 76ers cannot afford another subpar night from one of their best players if they want to move to the next round.
