The Philadelphia 76ers took their first loss of the 2022 NBA playoffs in Game 4 against the Toronto Raptors. They are still in a great position to advance despite Joel Embiid's thumb injury. Although the Sixers' superstar has played through the injury, he just received a brutal update on it.

The MRI on Embiid's right thumb shows a ligament tear, Sixers head coach Doc Rivers told reporters. He claims that the injury will not impact Embiid's availability. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the injury will require surgery but it will be held off until the offseason.

Rivers alluded to the injury being pretty bad yesterday and now the true nature of it is known. Embiid scored 21 points and collected eight rebounds in Philadelphia's Game 4 defeat. The Sixers still came close to pulling out the win, losing 110-102.

Tyrese Maxey and James Harden will need to be magnificent for the Sixers. Although Embiid will still play, they will have to take some of the scoring load off of him. If all three of them come to play, they should cruise into the next round of the NBA playoffs.

The Sixers will have the chance to close the Raptors out and take the series on their home court on Monday evening. The Joel Embiid thumb injury may slow him down but he is still one of the most dangerous scorers in the entire league.
