There hasn't been too much news on the Ben Simmons trade front of late with the Philadelphia 76ers still in the midst of a prolonged standoff with their want-away star. At this point, however, the Houston Rockets have emerged as the latest team to be linked to Simmons' looming exit from the Sixers.

Simmons, however, is not expected to land in Houston. According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Rockets could be involved as a third (or even fourth) team in a potential multi-team blockbuster trade:

“There’s been a number of rumors that have gone around the league in the last few weeks about Ben Simmons trade involving the Morey quarangular,” Windhorst said in a recent episode of the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective podcast (h/t Ben DuBose of Rockets Wire). “That would be Philadelphia, Minnesota, the Kings, and the Rockets. … Let’s just say there has been a lot of discussion.

“I’ve had executives tell me that when Ben Simmons gets traded, it will include one or more of the quadrangular. Not that that’s where Ben Simmons would go, but they would probably be involved, because a Ben Simmons trade likely ends up being a multi-team deal.”

As Windhorst described above, Houston's involvement can be attributed to Sixers president Daryl Morey, who used to serve as the general manager for the Rockets before making the move to Philly. It remains unclear what the Rockets will need to give up or gain in a potential deal, but given how they're currently looking at a full-blown rebuild, they will likely be in the market for future assets.
