Heading into Philadelphia 76ers training camp, everyone expected the Ben Simmons cloud to hang overhead. The former No. 1 pick has still yet to show up in Philadelphia but he doesn't appear to be changing his mind anytime soon.

Questions regarding Simmons have died down some since Sixers Media Day, but he has still been a topic during the early days of camp. Following Thursday's practice, Joel Embiid fielded some questions from the media.

During this availability, Embiid was asked his thoughts on the report that Simmons no longer wants to play aside him.

“It is disappointing. I feel like I can really play with anybody, and I can make anybody better on the court,” said Embiid.

The All-Star center then proceeded to completely air out his grievances toward Simmons amid his holdout. He feels the team has always done everything to meet Simmons' needs over the years.

“You look at when we signed Al [Horford], it's because we needed a stretch 5, just to make sure that was for him. Most of my career I've had to step out to the 3-point line, which I don't mind, I like to be a basketball player. I like to do everything on the basketball court. But I feel like our teams have been built whether it's the shooting needed, a stretch 5, and all that stuff, he's always had it,” Embiid said Thursday.

Along with the signing of Al Horford, Embiid mentioned another big move the Sixers made to cater to Simmons. After giving up a multitude of assets to acquire Jimmy Butler, he then moved to Miami in part because of Simmons and his need to have the ball.

“We got rid of Jimmy [Butler], which I still think is a mistake, just to make sure he needed the ball in his hands, and that's the decision they made,” said Embiid.

It's clear that Embiid is fed up with how things have gone down, and rightfully so. He has sat back and watched the team cater to Simmons' needs while he continued to grow and add new elements to his game to also lighten the burden of the shortcomings within Simmons' game. To sit back and witness all this happen, just to watch the player give up on the team, has to be infuriating for the franchise cornerstone.

Despite the open frustration toward Simmons, Embiid still managed to end things on a positive note. He understands that the situation is out of his control, and his focus is on the players currently surrounding him.

“I'm focused on the guys that are here, we trying to get better, trying to get on the same agenda. We know what we got to do, and every single day we got to attack it,” Embiid finished with.

It was to be expected that Embiid would eventually reach his breaking point, but it was slightly surprising to see it happen so soon. In the end, his mindset is in the proper place. Nothing he says or does will change anything regarding Simmons, so there is no point putting energy toward it. His priority is to be a leader for the Sixers both on and off the floor as they prepare for the start of the regular season.
