Through much of the last decade, the Spanish national basketball team has been a powerhouse in international play.

One of the primary pieces of that puzzle has been guard Juan Carlos Navarro. Prior to the Spanish team playing against Russia in the bronze medal game in EuroBasket, he announced that he will retire from international competition.

Following his announcement, the rest of the Spanish national team gave a round of applause toward the 37-year-old as he spoke to the media.

Juan Carlos Navarro has had much success with the national team having won the EuroBasket twice (2009, 2011) plus three medals at the Summer Olympics (silver in 2008 and 2012, bronze in 2016). He also won a pair of Silver medals (2007, 2011) and a bronze (2001) at EuroBasket. The Spanish national team will likely honor Navarro in some sort of fashion following the game

That said, he is expected to continue to play in Liga ACB with Barcelona where has played 16 out of the last 17 seasons with his one year away being with the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2007-08 campaign. Throughout his career with Barcelona, he has averaged 12.9 points, shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc, to go along with 2.5 assists per game.
