David Robinson and Tim Duncan won several championships with the San Antonio Spurs, and were considered the “Twin Towers” during their reign.

After Robinson retired, Duncan won even more titles with Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and coach Gregg Popovich. The Spurs were considered something of a dynasty in all those decades of winning.

In a recent interview, Robison spoke about Duncan, who was drafted in the late 1990s. The Spurs already had a big man in Robinson, and there were questions as to whether Robinson would possibly feel threatened with having a younger big man come into a big role.

But Robinson actually felt the opposite, per Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype.

“Tim was maybe the best thing that happened to me in my whole career. Obviously, having owners like Red McCombs and Peter Holtwas fantastic and coaches like Larry Brown and Pop were phenomenal. But I can say that Tim is probably the best thing that ever happened to me. He helped me as an individual to grow up and be a better a player. He helped us achieve the long-term goals that we set, winning championships. And he helped us become the model franchise over a 25-year period. He was kind of that last piece of the puzzle. It’s honestly a no-brainer when you think about the synergy between the two of us and what it allowed us to accomplish.”

It's great to see that Robinson feels that way about Duncan while looking on their time together. In reality, Duncan most likely prolonged Robinson's career as well.

Both of those players are now part of Spurs lore because of the way they managed to find a way to play together in harmony rather than acrimony. They deserved all the accolades they got in their playing days, and deserve the ones they each get after their respective retirements.
