San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson is one of the many NBA personalities that have paid tribute to his former teammate and NBA great Tim Duncan on his 44th birthday.

Robinson went on SiriusXm NBA Radio and narrated the first time he played against Duncan more than two decades ago. This was during Robinson's stint with Team USA in the mid 1990s, and at one point, the star-studded squad faced off against Duncan's college team, Wake Forest. To his surprise, a very young and inexperienced Duncan was able to hold his own against some of the best players on the planet before he came to the Spurs.

“He's the smoothest player you've ever seen,” declared Robinson. “He made it look so easy, and I thought, ‘Man, if I was a college kid having to play three of the top centers in the NBA, I would be a little bit rattled.' He didn't look rattled at all. He just played his game, did an unbelievable job.”

At that moment, Robinson knew that Duncan was going to be great. This is exactly why he was extremely pleased when the Spurs were able to get their hands on a 21-year-old Duncan as the first overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft.

This fearsome pairing ended up playing six seasons together with the Spurs before Robinson called it a career in 2003. During their six years together, they were able to win two championships. This was Robinson's only two titles throughout his decorated career, and surely, he has to thank Duncan for both of them.
