It may take some time for people to get used to the fact that DeMar DeRozan is now a member of the San Antonio Spurs after he was traded to the Western Conference by the Toronto Raptors. That said, the superstar forward is making his moves to build a stronger link between him, his new team, and its fanbase.

Here is DeRozan giving a shoutout to the Spurs with teammate Rudy Gay, via TSN.

It’s nice to see DeRozan getting over an ugly breakup with the Raptors, who traded him to the Spurs despite a reportedly prior promise to the shooting guard that they won’t ship him.

DeRozan, together with Jakob Poeltl and a future draft pick, were all sent to San Antonio for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. It was an earth-shaking transaction, as DeRozan served as the face of the Toronto franchise over the past several years, but it gives an opportunity for him to play with a winning organization and under a future Hall of Famer head coach in Gregg Popovich.

It also makes sense that DeRozan would hang out with Gay. Perhaps not many people remember that the two were teammates before in Toronto, where Gay spent parts of the 2012-13 and 2013-14 season north of the border.
