Gregg Popovich cemented his spot in the history books on Friday night, becoming the NBA's all-time coaching leader in wins with 1,336 wins. It's a momentous occasion, one that deserves to be celebrated. Knowing the Spurs coach, though, the coach would rather not celebrate his achievement in extravagant fashion.

One person close to him, though, was able to influence him to celebrate his achievement in some way. Brett Brown, a former assistant of Gregg Popovich, convinced the Spurs coach to just donate to a charity to celebrate his 1,336th win. Because of that, the Spurs will be auctioning off non-fungible tokens (or NFTs) of some of Pop's plays to donate to his charity. (via Adrian Wojnarowski)

While the use of NFTs for this method is a bit controversial, the overall intention is still pretty nice. In line with Pop's ideology and personality, the Spurs are turning his glory into good for other people, donating to a charity near and dear to Pop's heart. It's the perfect celebration for Popovich, who isn't too fond of flashy shows himself.

His record-setting win was incredibly flashy, though. Down by 15 points against the Utah Jazz, the Spurs faithful was ready to postpone their celebrations for the legendary coach. However, Dejounte Murray and the rest of the team refused to go down quietly, leading a comeback that ensured that Pop would be celebrating in his home arena.

There's a long road ahead for the Spurs, who are well behind in the playoff race currently. However, with the young guys they have right now, they certainly have a bright future ahead of them.
